Whoever throws the highest card wins the trick and the best of three tricks wins the round. The points the round is worth depend on the "gritos" ("Truco", "Vale 6", "Vale 9", and "Partido") that were agreed upon. In the Truco Paulista, the trump cards ("manilhas") are not fixed. The "manilhas" for the hand are the four cards of the value immediately above the flipped card ("vira") in the cyclic order [4]-3-2-A-K-J-Q-7-6-5-4-[3]. The four "manilhas" are ranked according to their suits in descending order: Clubs > Hearts > Spades > Diamonds. The other cards are ranked in the normal order of Truco 3-2-A-K-J-Q-7-6-5-4, losing the "manilha" rank.
